Become a Volunteer With Us!
Would you like to become a volunteer? We are recruiting!
From providing a helpful and friendly greeting, to engaging with visitors in exhibition spaces or researching the collection, our dedicated team of Volunteers are at the very heart of The Royal Welsh Museum. We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic about our Museum, eager to learn new skills and confident with delivering excellent customer service.
We are looking for both Front of House and research volunteers. Please see below for descriptions for both.
Volunteering Information:
WHERE AND WHEN?
The Royal Welsh Museum, The Barracks, The Watton, Brecon, LD3 7EB
We are looking for people who can volunteer, for a minimum 1 shift per week on a weekday within the Museum. These shifts can be a morning, afternoon or full day. The times of shifts are between 10:00am – 5:00pm.
Front of House
THIS ROLE IS SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO:
- enjoy meeting new people
- are enthusiastic, polite and have a friendly manner
- are interested in museums/history/military history
- enjoy working as part of a team and equally happy to work independently
- keen to learn about the history of The Royal Welsh and share this knowledge with our visitors
WHAT’S INVOLVED
- provide a friendly welcome and engage with visitors
- contribute positively to an excellent visitor experience
- answering enquiries from members of the public, visitors, groups, etc.
- help to share our long history with our visitors
- work on the shop/gate till selling products (training will be given)
We are particularly looking for those available for the following days:
- Monday Afternoons
- Weekends
If you cannot volunteer one of these days listed but are still interested, please do still get in touch!
Research
We are also looking for those who have an interest in working with the collection. Our current project involves researching the medals in our collection to learn more about the person who received them.
THIS ROLE IS SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO:
- enjoy research
- are interested in museums/history/military history
- a willingness to learn
- are happy to use a computer such as Word, search engines, etc (this is essential)
While this is the primary project, there may be others if this does not suit your interest. Please fill out the below form and our Curator will be happy to have a discussion with you to find the best fit for you.
