Introducing Karl Dixon
I’ve been a professional cartoonist since 1993 and have worked with many and varied clients; largely I’ve produced comic pages and graphic novels: For DC Thomson I wrote and illustrated Beryl the Peril and illustrated, for the Fun Sized comics, Roger the Dodger, Desperate Dan, Korky Cat and Dennis the Menace; for the last few years there I took Ollie Fliptrik, a character I co created, to the number one slot in the readers polls, knocking Desperate Dan off for the first time ever. In graphic novels I have written and illustrated four books for the European market and two self-published books in the UK. The first was Castle Comics, that I sold into over 125 gift shops, the second was the Night of the Village Idiots, which sells very well on Amazon; and I am working on more in my spare time.
I’ve also worked in greeting cards and sold spot gag cartoons all over the world. I have worked less in advertising, had some children’s book work, and illustrated five stories for a BBC children’s reading show. At present I illustrate Kid Kong in the relatively new Monster Fun comic, and produce a few specialist comic strips together with whatever comes through the door.
